Protecting Unaccompanied Children
In situations of forced displacement, refugee children – especially those unaccompanied and separated from their families – are particularly vulnerable to violence, abuse, exploitation and human trafficking.
In 2019, USA for UNHCR expanded its robust partnership with The UPS Foundation to help prevent the trafficking of refugee children living in Ethiopian urban areas. With a generous $100,000 grant, the UPS Foundation helped maintain the Child Protection Center in Addis Ababa, where approximately 960 refugee children received targeted assistance and protection services, including psychological support and life-skill trainings. Further, at least 80 foster families received cash assistance to meet the daily needs of their children for a year.
The UPS Foundation also delivered critical assistance to support UNHCR’s logistics and emergency operations worldwide and provided $850,000 in-kind assistance to distribute lifesaving core relief items to thousands of refugee families in Malawi, Niger, Venezuela and Somalia.
